Originally constructed in 1901
by Greenshields and Company (a wholesale dry goods merchant), this building
stands as a testament to the character and workmanship of historic Gastown.
Detailed brick facades, wood casement windows, and carved sandstone capitols
are all heritage components that have been preserved from that period.
Now converted into contemporary living space, the 5 storey Greenshields
Building comprises of 22 hi-style modern flats that have been carefully
designed to maintain and compliment the integrity of the original architecture.
Location
Situated at 345 Water Street, the Greenshields Building is right in
the heart of historic Gastown — where the city of Vancouver was
first developed. The cobblestone roads, antique-style lamp fixtures,
and heritage architecture are reminiscent of the area’s vibrant
past.
Many world-renowned restaurants, pubs, cafes, popular music nightspots
+ venues, and the array of specialty boutiques are indicative of Gastown’s
future as one of the city’s fastest growing neighbourhoods.
The proximity to
the downtown core makes the area convenient to all amenities. Work,
shopping, food, entertainment, and transit access are just steps away.
Builder
Tony Fontana is the Project Manager for the building, he has his own
company, Fontana Construction, and personally oversees the everyday
work being done on the building, as well as doing some of the work himself.
Fontana Construction has
been building custom homes for large clients throughout the Lower Mainland
and Whistler. Local projects include developments in the Fairview Slopes
and buildings such as the renovation of the Vancouver Film School. Fontana
Construction has been in construction for over 18 years.
