Intrawest Corp. and high-end hotelier Four Seasons Hotels are teaming up to build a luxury condominium hotel with 36 private residences in Whistler.

The project, called Four Seasons Private Residences Whistler, offers furnished homes that start at about $1.7 million for 1,500-square-foot, two-bedroom homes, Vancouver-based Intrawest said yesterday.

Top-end, 3,700-square-foot residences will cost more than $5 million. The project is located at the gateway to the Blackcomb Benchlands, next to the Four Seasons Resort Whistler.

The latter, strata-titled luxury hotel, sold 242 suites for $152 million in five hours last year. Top NHL players and Hong Kong millionaires were among the buyers.

Residences in the new project go on sale March 15 at an invitation-only launch in Whistler.

“The overwhelming response to the initial offering has led us to release 36 homes which will be the only opportunity to acquire Four Seasons whole-ownership real estate for year-round availability in Whistler,” Intrawest CEO Joe Houssian said.

“Because this is a limited offering, we anticipate they will sell quickly.”

Construction is scheduled to begin next month and to be completed in December 2004.
